VMHF is seeking a qualified engineer for the summer and early fall of 2008. We are also seeking an AB and cook to serve between September 1st and the middle of November. During this time, Virginia will be sailing along the New England Coast and the Canandian Maritimes. The season will include the Gloucester Schooner Race, the Prince Edward Island Race, and the Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race. Aplicants with experience in the sail training community are preffered. All applicants must be US citizens.

Schooner Virginia seeks a qualified engineer, two ABs and a cook for the summer and early fall. Contracts begin mid-July and finish mid-November. During this time, Virginia will be sailing between the Chesapeake Bay and Prince Edward Island, Canada. She will be conducting youth and adult educational programs and participating in the Gloucester, PEI and Chesapeake Bay schooner races. All applicants must be US citizens. AB Sail and STCW Basic Safety Training certification is prefered.

Highlander Sea Inc. is accepting applications for the position of engineer during the 2008 sailing season. Candidates must have significant mechanical experience as well as be able to maintain and operate the ship’s systems in a clean, organized manner. Because the engineer also works on deck, it is important that they are able to maintain a professional demeanor with volunteers and guests.

Highlander Sea is 135 Gross Registered Tons with a schedule that includes public day-sails, private charters and overnight passages. Also included are educational programs ranging from elementary to college level.

Soren Larsen has 13 permanent crew and up to 22 Voyage Crew, operating on a 3 watch system. As Chief engineer you would be responsible for operating and maintaining all machinery and associated equipment, as
appropriate; and keep up all engine room log books; be responsible for bunkering and undertake training of other deck crew in operation of fire pumps, bilge pumps, starting and stopping of generators and of the main
Alpha engine. The main engine is the original B &W Alpha installed in 1949. The Alpha is a loop scavenged, 2 stroke diesel developing about 280 hp at 380 rpm.

Soren Larsen spends Dec-March in New Zealand and then April -November sails in the South Pacific commencing with a voyage from Auckland to Easter Island
