CAPTAIN DAVID WOOD TO CHAIR
STI CLASS A TALL SHIPS FORUM

December 19, 2005 Capt David Wood has been appointed Chairman of the Sail Training International Class A Tall Ships Forum. He will also become a member of STI’s International Council. He takes over from Per Rønnevig.

Dave Wood is a former Chairman and Executive Director of the American Sail Training Association. He is the founding chairman of the Forum working group on international regulatory recognition, leading STI’s negotiations on this with national and international regulatory agencies and other interested parties.

“Per helped us launch the Forum in early 2004 and we have valued his contribution to its work since then. Dave takes over at a time when we see opportunities for the Forum’s activities and influence to grow rapidly,” says Nigel Rowe, President and Chairman of STI. “The Forum now has a membership of more than 60 Class A sail training Tall Ships operators in close to 30 countries around the world. It is an important element in STI’s drive for more effective global representation and promotion of the sail training activity.”

“The Class A Tall Ships Forum has already proved to be a valuable instrument in advancing the interests of its members, and it has the prospect of becoming a more powerful voice internationally.” says Capt David Wood. “The Forum’s agenda will continue to be determined largely by its members, but I expect our focus will be on projects and issues that will help insure a robust and growing fleet of large sail training ships, sailing the world’s oceans with young trainees for the foreseeable future.”

The Class A Tall Ships Forum reports to the board of Trustees of Sail Training International.
