Meet the 2006 ASTA Summer Interns

My name is Mary Schneider, and I have just finished my senior year of college where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in the field in Marine Transportation. I hope to soon obtain a position onboard a vessel sailing as a Third Mate and putting all of my training to good use. I can not wait to visit the exciting ports the ASTA team will be visiting in the next few months. I am most excited to have the opportunity to sail aboard one of the tall ships during the race series.

My name is Alexandra Hagerty. Influenced by having spent part of my high school career in Lausanne, Switzerland (French area), I have been very busy over the past few years studying international relations and comparative languages at Earlham College. Last year I studied economics/politics in India and Sri Lanka during my first semester and in Spain during my second semester. I have a love of adventures such as bungee jumping, camping, horseback riding, skiing, and ice climbing. In general, I love challenges and I look forward to this summer as something that will surely be memorable!

My name is Meredith McKinnon and I am from Ottawa Ontario, Canada. I just completed my first year of University at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St.John’s. I sailed aboard STV Fair Jeanne for the 2003 Tall Ships Challenge Race Series from Kingston, Ontario to Chicago, Illinois as an officer in training. My two favorite things in the world are sailing and traveling, and so I am very excited to be a summer intern with ASTA and I am looking forward to the challenges and experiences it will bring!
